Hi,

I am new to Java and I would like to take up the ocajp certification soon. Can someone guide me with the preparation for the same ? Like how many months should I prepare before taking the test.. course materials..etc..

Thanks in advance,
Aarthi

Hi Aarthi,

I think OcajpFaq is a good starting point. It contains useful information and also some study guides you could use for your preparation. Another useful resource is the OcajpWallOfFame. Here people post their passing score and often also a link to a post about their experiences while preparing (and taking) the exam. This forum is of course also one of the best resources to help clear your doubts and answer your questions

There is no such thing as a standard preparation time needed for this exam. It depends from a bunch of criteria: your current level, the time you can spend each day, your learning speed,... And I'm a strong believer of taking your time to prepare for this exam, because it's not only about that certification, that piece of paper; even more important is to become a better (java) developer with a very good understanding of the Java basics.

As you are new to Java, you probably need 4 to 6 months to get ready for this certification exam.

Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Roel
