OCAJP8 Study Guide Question

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi Jeanne and Scott!

I passed the OCAJP 7 Exam in November. I have just started studying for the OCPJP 7 Exam. I'm wondering if it makes sense to double back and take the OCAJP 8 exam now and then pickup on OCPJP 8.

Is there a big difference between the OCA 7 and OCA 8 exams? Would it take a lot of additional study to get ready for OCA 8 after recently passing OCA 7?

Thanks for your insight! I'm really curious to see your book.

Doug,
There's an "upgrade exam" that covers the Java 8 specific topics. I think you are better off finishing the OCPJP 7 and then taking the upgrade exam for Java 8. That gets you the OCPJP cert sooner. It's not the easier path though.

There are a few new topics on the OCAJP 8 like lambdas and dates. I created a table that shows the detailed objective mapping. I think you'd pass it easily after learning the new topics. But I think that you'll learn more and have a more marketable cert with the OCPJP 7. Keep in mind that the OCPJP 8 isn't out yet and won't be for some time.

Agreed!

No pain, no gain!

I just like to add (for completeness): you can not combine different version certifications.

Kind regards,
