Passed the WebLogic Developers 6.0 Certification Exam.
I probably spent too much time studying the harder topics (got most all of the Transaction, Clustering, and JMS questions correct), but not enough on the shorter topics (missed a few on Database Connectivity and Connection Pooling).
Curiously, very few xml questions on my exam (however, some colleagues who took the exam did have a few). Nothing on the xml registry or the config.xml file, and only a few on the structure and content of deployment descriptor tags. The rest of the exam was pretty evenly spread among clustering, transactions, ejbs, servlets/jsp, rmi, jms, deploying, Admin Console configuration, and even a few on CORBA.
Hopefully this lends some credibility to the study guide Ive put together and distributed to quite a few people. The latest version is 1.5, but if youve already gotten an earlier copy, no need to request new version. The only addition is of WebLogic security (read Programming WebLogic Security, and Ive re-arranged the order of a few things (such as coming back to Message Driven Beans only after youve gotten a good understanding of EJB 2.0 and JMS).
Also, although BEA outlines 9 sections on their Certification Page, in the exam there was only 8. The "Develop WebLogic Components with Vendor Tools" was not tested. The SCJP exam is also no longer a pre-requisite.

Hi Joe ,
Congratulations !!!.
Hey I think you are a better person to answer my question.
I am trying to create a new domain in wls 6.0 .I am doing it thru the console window.Everything is okay ,but when I try to start the domain ,it gives me security exception ,it doesnt take the password (my bootup weblogic password) ,and says
"<Emergency> <Server> <Unable to initialize the server: 'Fatal initialization exception
Throwable: java.lang.SecurityException: Authentication for user sys
java.lang.SecurityException: Authentication for user system denied"...
How do I create anew domain thru console.I know it can be done by simply copying the default domain and changing the configuration, but I dont want to do that .
Any help ??
Mousami

hi joe,
I have completed the weblogic 6.0 exam last monday and passed.
Now how I have to get the certificate from BEA?
while taking exam the prometric people told they will send the
information to BEA.But in the BEA site it was mentioned like we have to register our name to receive the welcome kit within 3-6 weeks. My friends are telling that we have to send a copy of score report with a formal letter to the BEA?
can you tell me what you have to done after completing your exam.
thanx in advance
karmegam

Karmegam,
After you have passed the certification exam, you need to fax your request to become a BEA Certified Developer to +1-408-570-8921. This request should be addressed to Certification and should contain:
Your Name
Address
City, State, Zip, Country
Phone number
e-mail address
Shirt Size -(Small, Medium, Large, Xlarge)
Name as you would like to see it on the Certificate
Date of completion of BEA WebLogic Server Developer Test
A copy of the BEA WebLogic Server Developer Test score report from Prometric.
After you have faxed that over, BEA will send the certification, t-shirt, and welcome package (3 to 6 weeks).

Hey Joe,
Paul's got a good point. To save your time you may want to upload your guide to a website and post the URL here.
That's the way we've encouraged in the SCJP foums in the past.

Due to the great demand, I've set up a website where users may download the guide, currently at:
weblogic.batcave.net
This may change to be hosted at www.gammacomputer.com, so if it does I'll just add a redirect. I might add a mock exam, and some additional tutorials, and anything else that may seem pertinent, so check back often.
Thanks to all of you who have requsted the guide and given feedback, and especially the JavaRanch. I appreciate your help! I hope in some way I've helped others become proficient in WebLogic Server.

I am locking this topic because Joe has uploaded his guide for all to access at their convenience, and to avoid the requests snowballing again.
You should still all be able to see the URL although the thread will be closed.
If you have further questions about the certification process, please feel free to start a new thread.
cheers
- George
