Hi,

I've just accepted a position with a company that's Mac centric and uses IntelliJ as their Java IDE. I'm actually Eclipse centric, and have never used IntelliJ. But apparently, at least on the Mac, IntelliJ only runs cleanly using Java 1.6 and the old 1.6 that is still installed is out of date and so I'd like to upgrade it. My problem is that I can find 1.6 from Windows, Linux and Solaris but not for the Mac on the Oracle web site. Any idea where I can find it?

Thanks,
Rob

Hmmm, my version of IntelliJ (13) runs fine under the self-installed version of 1.6. Are you using a later version of IntelliJ that might need a more up-to-date version?

P.S. If everyone else in the company is using Macs and IntelliJ, should you not be able to ask a coworker to help you get set up?

Marshall,

The current IntelliJ is 14. and I'm unaware of any ability to download 13. Also, what I'm trying to do is get it installed on my MacBook ahead of time (I start work on Monday and I don't yet know any of my co-workers) so that I'm at least familiar with the IDE before I start.

If you indeed need 13, there is a link for previous versions right on the downloads page.

I decided to post this same question on an Apple specific forum. I got the answer and it's all done and working.

Could you post your findings here so anyone else with the same problem can benefit?

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
