Hello and welcome to the ranch

What do you think, having oracle certifications gives greater chance to get a better job offers? I have heard really different opinions. I mean, preparing for exam can be useful because you can learn some details, but is oracle certification really desirable by employers?
You have to pass job interview anyway, but having certs can give something more?
Is that book explaining some java 8 features? Or you have to know java 8 se before(At least good basics).

Just sharing my thoughts/opinions.

Give yourself enough time to prepare. Don't rush! My personal opinion: the journey becoming certified is much more important than that piece of paper itself. If you take your time to prepare, you'll become a much better developer with a good understanding of Java and OO basics. You'll get much more out of your certification than someone who's preparing to just pass the exam. No doubt! In this thread I listed a few personal benefits of getting certified.

I think that really depends. I assume consultancy companies would prefer certifications and even encourage them, because it is a means to prove the consultant knows Java quite well. I always try to encourage other Java developers to get certified. The few times I had a job interview, it was noticed each time (and I got few questions, probably to check it isn't a lie ). I also interviewed a few people in the recent past, although I'm happy to see a cert on the CV, it's not a requirement to get a Java developer position; but it could make the difference between two equal candidates.

Because OCA 8 is about Java & OO basics, I would assume no prior Java knowledge is required. But no one better than both authors to answer this question

Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Roel
