I'm hoping this is a simple thing, but I'm trying to find out about Java 7 security updates and have had a hard time finding anything clear-cut on the web. I've heard that after April, 2015, Oracle will no longer provide security updates for Java 1.7. Is this correct? Thanks!

You are referring to This announcement?

Java SE 7 End of Public Updates Notice
After April 2015, Oracle will no longer post updates of Java SE 7 to its public download sites. Existing Java SE 7 downloads already posted as of April 2015 will remain accessible in the Java Archive on Oracle Technology Network. Developers and end-users are encouraged to update to more recent Java SE versions that remain available for public download.

Long Term Support
Customers who need continued access to critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for Java SE 7 or older versions can get long term support through Oracle Java SE Support.

If I understand it correctly, they are stopping the public release of security patches etc. You can still pay for support.

And welcome to the Ranch

They are trying to encourage you to move onto Java8.
