I am Masters in Computer Science and have certifications OCM, Java SE 6 Developer and OCP, Java SE 6 Programmer. But my experience has been more of Network, Helpdesk and server room shifts. I want to work in Java and Android. I have worked in Java on Odesk. While have an android app on google play that reads RSS feeds from a website and display them.
In my situation, most of my work is on odesk where I have landed a few (like 10 in last 5 months) small projects and of course my app. If I go for an interview for a developer job, would this experience do me any good? I want a 2-3 years contract job that should pay me well.

Which country?
In India, what I've seen is smaller companies and start-ups will consider it a plus point, because you have already proven capable of implementing and delivering end to end. I'd suggest publishing a portfolio website where you describe your projects, and point them to it.

On the other hand, HR departments of larger companies tend to be conservative and ignorant. Most don't even know what freelancing is or consider it glorified unemployment. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them asks something stupid like a signed experience certificate from odesk!

I'm not in India, but I'd consider your experience equivalent to entry level with an internship. In other words, equivalent to someone who worked during university.
Been there. Done that. Went back for more. But this time, I took this tiny ad with me:
