Probably not the right topic section.

When an instance of my app starts I set a session attribute value and store that in a database along with some other data. When the app closes the data record is deleted.

This is data so I can see who is using the app. All works good except when the session times out the record does not get deleted. Can someone give me some idea on how to handle this?

There should be some sort of session timeout method or session handler/listener which you can use to handle your case.
What programming language are you using. If you are using java, then you can take a look at the "HttpSession" class and "HttpSessionLister".
