Hi,
I have just cleared OCJP 7 exam. In this post i would try to provide sum up my experience which may be helpful for someone who yet has to appear for OCJP Exam.
i) Which course material should be followed ?
Ans) "OCA/OCP
Java SE 7 Programmer I & II Study Guide (K & B)" is enough although i also followed "Oracle Certified Professional Java SE 7 Programmer Exams 1Z0-804 and 1Z0-805 by Apress".
ii) Where do we get mock exams and do they help ?
Ans) Yes, they help in lots of ways. Specially the explanations they provided with the answers are really helpful. I tried "Enthuware mock exams" and my experience was very positive about them. I also tried Whizlabs free mock exam available on their website, It was also a good one.
iii) Is our score in real exam close to the score in mock exams ?
Ans) Yes (at least in my case), My average score in 5 mock exam was 77% and in the last day unique was 73% (though it include many wrong answer due to not properly reading question statement). The score i achieved in real exam is 81% (see its close to my average score in mock exams).
iv) Do we also get questions regarding the contents covered in OCJA exam ?
Ans) Yes, at least in my case i got many of them. Most of the question i face regarding OCJA exams were regarding properly casting objects, accessing and modifying fields declared in interfaces, shadowing of same name fields in parent-child relationship, Improperly overriding methods (access modifiers), checked exceptions hierarchy like catcing generic exception before specific one etc.
v) Were there any long code problems regarding threads, generics etc
Ans) There were long code problems but all consists of clear compilation error either in the start of code of end of code though there were not much long code problems.
vi) Were there any questions of Serialization or Binary Streams ?
Ans) No
vii) Do we need a third party tutor or institute to teach us ?
Ans) I initially searched for an institute in the local area but after waiting for them for almost an year i decided to do it by myself. Its totally a waste of resource to go to institutes in my opinion and i think its do able without acquiring training from institutes. The entire idea is to be regular in no matter how much time you can manage to give studying and study book more than once.
Disclaimer: The text above presents my experience/opinions and if it hurts or mislead any person in any way it is purely unintentional.
That's all from my side. You can always ask me if i skipped/missed any ..
Cheers and Good Luck for Your Exam
