1. You can try reading certification books and do couple of small Java projects.

2. You can read this article about creating midlet with eclipse.

Welcome to the Ranch.

Unfortunately there are no short cuts to becoming a Java 'expert'. You can read books/tutorials etc (and you certainly should read some of them - search this site for recommended books) but at the end of the day the way you learn is through studying lots and lots of problems and then designing and implementing solutions ie writing the code. And don't think you can/need to become an expert at all of Java, it's way to big a subject area for anyone to be a total expert at everything Java related. Learn the basics and then find out what area(s) interest you/will give you a career etc and hone your skills in those areas.
