Personally to me the best way that I learn is just to get my hands dirty and start coding but if I'm trying to learn a new technology such as J2EE I would watch videos and read lots of documentation so that way I know some of the basics. Then I just get my hands dirty! While coding I read a lot of documentation to progress forward....

Everyone learns differently but I would start with what is J2EE.

Derek banas YouTube video Derek's java tutorial playlist covers some aspects of JEE. Such as videos that might be relevant to what you want is video 93, 44 to 46, 39 - 41, 33 & 34.

MySQL Understanding databases are an important part of learning Java EE

thenewboston coverage on J2EE I would start at video 26 and go down the list from there.

After watching those Link for what is J2EE

Then I would get my hands dirty. I started with learning how to write a multi-threaded n-tier application. Good reference for n-tier architecture. Everyone learns differently so its up to you to decide on how to start but from my understanding to learn a new technology starts with coding and reading......
