Hi all,
i am familiar with java language and have been working as java developer. Now i am decided to get certified and planning to compete the exam "1Z0-808 Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 8 Programmer".
i just bought the book "OCA: Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide: Exam 1Z0-808 Jeanne Boyarsky, Scott Selikoff" last book.
Please clarify below concerns

1. Is the above book fine for preparation?
2. Is there any other book for preparation?
3 Please tell me online tutorials for mock exams and practice same questions
4.do i need to purchase again the book "the JA+ V8 for Oracle Certified Associate - Java SE8 Programmer I (1Z0-808) from Enthuware was released (according to Enthuware)."

Thanks in advance

Hi satish konda,

First of all, a warm welcome to CodeRanch!

satish konda wrote:1. Is the above book fine for preparation?

Yes, it definitely is!

In the 1st post of this topic, you'll find an overview of all available study guides. The study guide you mentioned is currently the only paperback OCA8 study guide on the market. But you could of course purchase a OCA7 study guide and use some online resources (e.g. Oracle's online tutorials) to study the new OCA8 topics (like lambdas and date/time API).

The study guide you purchased comes with some online mock exams. And the Enthuware OCA8 mock exams offer excellent value for money!

There's no requirement to purchase these mock exams. But many ranchers (who already passed OCA7 or OCA8) found these exams very useful in their exam preparation. And like I already said: Enthuware mock exams have an excellent value for money: only 10 usd for 600+ mock questions with explanations. And the software they use is an excellent simulation of the actual exam software as well.

Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Roel

You'll definitely want to have a look on the errata overview of the study guide which you can find here.

And my copy also has 379 pages, so that's ok. Probably a mistake of Amazon. Nothing to worry about!

Happy studying!

I see 432 on Amazon, not 435. Not that either is correct.

There are 379 numbered pages in the book plus 42 roman numeral pages for the intro. (The roman numeral pages include all the front matter.) That gives me 421. There's also 9 or so pages in the back . Most of which are blank followed by a page about the learning environment. Which takes us to 430. Close, but not 432.

I suspect the numbers on Amazon are approximations. Not everything is right on there. For example, Amazon used to say the OCAP 8 sequel to this book comes out in June. That was never true. (They've seen changed it to December which is the date we think it will be printed and available.)

Amazon probably has to rely on information provided by the publisher. The official webpage of the OCA 8 study guide (on Wiley's website) mentions 432 pages as well.
