Can you give an example of something that doesn't match? We validated our book against the exam objectives. I'm wondering if maybe you are looking at the OCP rather than the OCA objectives.

Hello Sir ,

Thanks for reply

i was looking for the following topics in the book

Working with Selected classes from the Java API
1)Manipulate data using the StringBuilder class and its methods
2)java.time.LocalDateTime, 3) java.time.LocalDate, 4)java.time.LocalTime, 5)java.time.format.DateTimeFormatter, 6)java.time.Period .

and also lambda expression are explained in short is it ok just go through this book and appear for exam or should i use some other book to study the topics in deep (already got overview about java from Java Complete reference ).i have seen the book i am reading is for Exam 1Z0-808
so i guess i am using the correct one (OCA).

Use the edit button when you need to alter something in the previous post.

I dont know where you are looking while trying to find those topics in the book but i am sure they are covered since the new date classes are one of the important changes in JAVA 8.

Also remember reading about them in there too. Everything asked in the real exam is shown in the book at least one time (own experience)!

All of those are in the book. StringBuilder and Dates/Times are in chapter 3. I took the beta exam to sanity check the book. There was exactly one topic missing from our draft (because Oracle mangled the words in an objective and it wasn't clear wrapper classes valueOf/parse were on the exam.) And we remedied that before printing.

The reason lambdas are explained so briefly in the book is that only the very basics (syntax and Predicates) are covered on the OCA exam. The OCP exam goes into a lot more detail.

Hi Rohit Gaikwad,

First of all, a warm welcome to CodeRanch!

The study guide by Jeanne and Scott is a very god choice. If you need some additional mock exams, you can always buy Enthuware mock exams for OCAJP8. Excellent value for money!

Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Roel

I would like to second this recommendation. Enthuware is a lot of material, well organized, and quite inexpensive for what you get. I used their online service, which works fine on my phone as well -- handles intermittent signals while I am on the train fairly well (only one or two backtracks).
