Hello,
Yes, this is a true beginner question!
So, I have learned some programming, and made a few simple programs using Netbeans. I have always wondered how other people would be able to use my programs. For example, if I was to compress my program into one folder and put it online, or send it to another person, would they also need Netbeans to open it? Or would they just need to download it and open it? I really do not know how this works.
Thank you!
Jordan

A lot of people these days use an online repository system such as github or BitBucket to share their code. You would include instructions on how to build and run your program.

So, essentially I just upload my code to this site. Then you said that I need to include instructions on how to build and run my program. This is what I just do not know how to do. How do they need to build my program? Even a link to a page explaining it would be great - I can't find anything.

The help pages on github are pretty good at explaining how it all works: help.github.com/.

As for explaining how to build and run your project, that is something only you know. It's your project after all. How do you build and run it yourself?

---- or ---- do you mean making the binaries available?
Although Java bytecode is portable the approaches to launching them on the various platforms is not.
