I have started reading head first java as I was advised to do but I seem completely lost in the third chapter in which I don't completely understand the codes. All I see is puzzles and complete code I don't understand and I'll always be told not to bother, that makes me ask the question what sort of application can I develop after completing head first java? or should complement it with some books and what sort of books. Thanks in advance. What Sort Of Application Will I be able to Develop After Completing Head First Java 2nd Edition?

I'm not sure what you mean by, "I'll always be told not to bother." My theory is the book is telling not to get so immersed in details that you don't learn the core concepts. It's not saying that you'll never understand the details, just that you have to take it one step at a time.

I haven't read that particular book, mostly because it didn't exist when I was learning Java. I have read other books in the Head First series, and I've found them very useful. It's a non-standard approach to textbook learning, but that's what makes them stand out. Looking at the table of contents, I see that it covers a pretty wide array of Java information. you should be able to write simple GUI, console, and distributed Java programs. Of course, your study can't stop with a single book. It will take time and effort to become a skilled Java programer. For me, that effort has been worth it.

Thanks Greg for your awesome remarks, I get confused and discouraged to read the book when a java application had been written and will be told not to bother that it will be taught as I read the book. The main problem is that I do understand some codes but doesn't understand how some of the codes run.

Moreover, what are other materials I will to be a Successful java developer in about 7 months though I know the prerequisites already.
