Relevance of Head First in a changed world

Is Head First servlets and jsp still relevant after the changed version of j2ee and exam. A lot seems to have changed since then. Annotations, dependency injection etc. Thinking along the lines of using both books ( HF and book by Lyons) for exam study.

You can always read Head First to gain basic knowledge of Servlet and JSP (I still consider it as best book for beginners , irrespective of Java/J2EE versions).
Once you gain basic knowledge, you can build changes that Java has made in Servlet/JSP in recent times

I don't think Head First book covers asynchronous processing which is session 2.3.3.3 of the JSR 315.
I think we should find some other reference materials.
