I'm having trouble figuring out a computer problem for a relative and am hoping someone will have an idea. Making this extra difficult is the computer in question is 3K miles away, we can't screenshare and the person who owns the computer does low computer skills. (It takes 5 minutes to explain how to minimize a window and drag it.)

Here's what I know:
  • Everything worked fine until a few days ago when the computer received the latest Chromebook update (to 43.0.2357.130)
  • Immediately after the update, the computer changed from mirror to extend mode for the external monitor - don't know why
  • Whether in extend or mirror mode there is a two inch black bar only on the right side of the external monitor
  • The resolution on the Chromebook is 1366x768. The resolution on the external monitor is reporting as 1280x720. I don't know why they are different or how to fix this.
  • I have an older Chromebook and cannot reproduce the problem after updating to this same version of the Chrome OS

  • Any ideas?

Did you get this figured out? It really sounds like a resolution issue, but I've never seen a Chromebook so I can't help with this one. I'm just curious.

No. I have a Chromebook as well but I can't reproduce the problem either.
