I'm new to JSF. Currently working on a webapp that takes multiply input fields on a form and saves the information via a save button. I want to change it to JSF and would like to know do I put up a panel in a decorator pattern and then put each field via xhtml on the panel. The desired look would be similar to a swing app with a menubar and input fields on a frame. Any help on how this is accomplished via Faces would be great.

Thanks
Mark

It sounds like maybe you should read an old but very useful article that I often recommend to first-time JSF people.

It's actually a series of 3 or 4 articles from IBM DeveloperWorks called "JSF for Nonbelievers" by Rick Hightower and google should be able to find it for you.

As I said, it's very old, but the only major change in how things work since then is that a JSF2 version of the sample app would probably use annotations instead of faces-config.xml for navigation control. Although faces-config is alive and well, just not as convenient.

The sample app displays a table of items and allows you to select a row in the table and edit its details.

I only found part two of the article. IBM site search did not find it either. It seems that it is too old of an article. I did find part two useful as it explains the life cycle completely but I could not find any example source code.

Thanks for your answer. I will keep looking.

Well, dang! It looks like IBM has pulled the entire series off their Developerworks website. Now where am I going to find a good example for people?
