I have read about dirty checking feature in hibernate. I have read that if this feature is enabled and state of object changes then hibernate automatically checks this and does the update (Explicitly saving the object is not required). I have not understood that why would some not want to enable this useful feature. Are their certain cases where dirty checking should not be enabled.

thanks

This article discusses the implicit updates and mentions some downsides.

If you have a read-only application, dirty checking is not needed at all
