Is it easier to learn a GUI framework by starting with one that is established and has a lot of support like Spring or something new such as JavaFX?

It would very much depend on what you are trying to accomplish. You pick the tools that will accomplish the job you want to complete, not the other way around.

"Should I use a hammer or a chef's knife?" The answer depends on whether you are trying to build a doghouse or carve a turkey.

… and welcome to the Ranch

I think the answer to your original question is

no

It is not easier to learn an old framework nor a new one. They both have their difficulties and you should regard both as a challenge to learn.

Hi Jack,

In my view, knowing one GUI can make it easier to learn another because you have already gained some experience in writing GUI-based code. Thus, you will already understand some general concepts. However, when learning a new GUI, it is important that you don't jump to conclusions or make assumptions about how it works based on your previous GUI. As a general rule, the specifics will differ.

For my JavaFX book, no prior experience with a Java GUI is required. In the preface, I do tell readers that if they already know another Java GUI, they may be able to advance through the book more quickly, but that a careful reading is still advised.

Hope this helps.
