OCAJP 8- We are asked to write some programs?

Hi Edward Finegan & Robert Liguori,

I have read this line about the book in Amazon site : "For the first time, candidates are required to learn functional programming to pass the exam".
What does it mean? We are asked to write some programs?

No, there is no program writing on the exam.

"Functional programming" is a style of programming introduced with version 8. It just means it's one of the topics tested.

Functional programming in essence is working with Lambdas. No, you will not need to write any programs, but you will be presented with plenty of code. The more you can program on your on in preparation, the more prepared you'll be come the exam.

No, you don't need to write a single line of code. On all OCA (and OCP) exams you'll only have to answer multiple choice questions. For most of these questions you'll need to evaluate a code snippet and you should be able to spot a compiler error or a runtime exception or process a few complex loops or ...
