Hi guys

I saw something about a Two Tier Web-Centric Architecture in something i read while studying. Is there such a thing, what is this?. My understanding is that two tier is fat clients, and by definition not Web-Centric?

Thanks

Two tier architecture is basically client/ server.

A web site can theoretically hosted on one single server along with a database server (also on that same server). Does this sound like 2-tier?

That particular architecture, incidentally, is what lead to the infamous "SQL Slammer" exploit of days gone by.

The Java version of that architecture is a website that serves up one or more servlets which access the server-side database directly (instead of via the webapp's internal logic on the server).

The Windows version of that architecture was much more prevalent and was based on OLE/ActiveX client-side objects.

web-centric refers to huge focus being put on the presentation layer of the system under development. This is usually used not for development of real app but for prototyping the user interface. Once the end-user/customer accepts it, then the application is developed with proper architectural style
