Hi,

I have an oracle certified professional certification(Java SE 7). I am interested to shift my gear towards Java EE certifications and selected the OCPJBCD however i am very confused with the course contents of two exams.

1) 1z0-860
2) 1z0-895

Its very hard for me to decide that which certification should i aim for ?
The first one is Oracle certified professional in business component developer and the second one is oracle certified expert in business component developer ?

Should i first go for 1) and then 2) ? for both exams mentioned above it says that oracle certified professional is must (any version) ?

The second confusion regarding this is that do i have to do Java EE professional certification for any higher certification i.e. Expert OR Java SE professional certification will work as on oracle site they only mention Java professional certification as mandatory

Kindly help me put my self on right track, I have already started preparation from enterprise Java beans

Thanks in advance

Regards,

Hi Kashif,

Always go for the latest exam that is available; in this case 1z0-895 (OCE-EJBD-EE6). Oracle changed the "title" of the certifications from professional (EE5) to expert (EE6). However just consider this a marketing change. You can do the 1z0-895 exam if you have OCPJP, any version, which you have.

Note that for this business component exam the EE5 version (1z0-860) contained both EJB and JPA, whereas for the EE6 version (1z0-895) is only about EJBs, JPA has its own exam (1z0-898).

Check also the ScbcdLinks.

Hi,

http://www.coderanch.com/t/613764/java-EJB-SCBCD/certification/Difference-SCBCD

I happen to agree with Frits in the post above. My personal reasoning is because certification exam offerings come well after specifications and depending upon how much time one has to prepare, one may find themselves preparing for an older exam (1z0-860) that has been overridden by another exam (1z0-895), in whole or in part. On my job we haven't upgraded to using the specs covered in 1z0-895 (yet), so I find preparing for 1z0-860 more pertinent, albeit perhaps only temporarily until we eventually upgrade.

The requirement for 1z0-895 is "Oracle or Sun Certified Java Programmer (Professional) any version", by the "sound" of things you would be all set if you elected to prepare for 1z0-895.

I hope this helps.

Thanks a lot both of you for clearing it up. It looks very hard to see why oracle is keeping two different versions of same exam i.e. 1z0-895 and 1z0-860, they could have modified the 1z0-860 and make it an expert level certification.

I think i should go for 1z0-895.

That's a great selection. I'll be looking forward to hearing some of your explanations to my questions when you become ready (since many of the exam objectives overlap). In the meantime, personally, I just have to hope that Oracle does not retire 1z0-860 quite yet. Oracle Certification Exam Retirement
