Hi all, I am writing juat after I took 1z0—809 and got the results (88%). I also took 1z0-808 on 16/9 and got 97%. Here is my journey over the past month.

Background:

I am a programmer with a few years of experience using Java on and off. At the end of August, hoping to find a better job, I decided to get OCA andhopefully OCP of Java.

Materials:

—Enthuware for both exams , this is most important and absolutely essential for success. questions in real exam are quite similar to some of Enthuware questions.
—K&B Java 7. Since no books for ocpjp8 is out yet, I had to use the Java 7 version.
—OCA: Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide. This is for OCA and it matches the scope of the exam very well.
—For Stream API, mainly used web pages found on the oracle javadoc, oracle blogs, and other tutorials.

OCA experience:

OCA is quite easy and you should have no problems passing after throughly studying the above materials and doing enthuware tests. For the exam, a few but less than 10 are for the new lambda expressions and Date API. Your mileage may vary though and may get more or less on new topics.

OCP Experience:

Now for the OCP, I will say the scale of scope and difficulty is entirely a different thing. After reading K&B cover to cover the ENthuware for 1z0-809 just came out so I immediately bought it and started doing tests. I found that the number of topics was simply too much, and that I would forget some details regarding the topics. One strategy I used was to focus on one topic to review between each test. In the end I scored ~70% on all mock tests.

The exam:
Just took the exam today this afternoon (8/10) at one of the local exam center. The center did not provide the earplugs, but since I was the only one taking tests, it was OK. The difficulty was similar or slightly easier than Enthuware, depending on the topic. Here are some of my tips:

—Unlike OCA I got tons of questions of lambdas, stream and Date API (~40-45% on Stream, and a few on date api). So make sure you are very well prepared on these topics!

—For lambdas, they mainly test on the functional interfaces, their binary and primitive versions and method signatures, and the questions are deep e.g. make sure you know what a IntUnryOperator is and what it does!

—For streams, basically all major stream methods have appeared, and the advanced ones like flatmap, collectors and reduce appear quite frequently as well. Primitive versions such as flatmaptoint were also seen so do miss them.

—For dates, i only got a few on Duration, and and ZonedDateTime and they were easy.

—Note that for the above topics, I found some questions that test multiple topics simultaneously. I even got one that tests Streams, lambdas, Files and NIO at the same time!

—For the rest of the topics, they were ok and you should be ok provided that you have prepared well.

Judging from the Enthuware score page, it looks like I am the first one to pass 1z0-809 using the Enthuware mock. I would like to thank the authors of Enthuware for producing and supporting this superb tool that is simply essential for many to pass the exam. My gratitude also goes to the authors of the above books and web pages. Without them preparation for the exam would be very difficult if not impossible.

Finally, feel free to ask me anything regarding the exam, thanks!
