Hi,

I have been studying for the OCAJP exam from past couple of months. I have gone through and read the following books:
  • OCA/OCP Java SE 7 Programmer I & II Study Guide- Kathy Sierra & Bert Bates
  • OCAJP SE 7 - Mala Gupta study guide

  • I have also taken Enthuware mock exams and given below are my scores:
  • Test 1 - 71 %
  • Test 2 - 74 %
  • Test 3 - 73 %
  • Test 4 - 67 %
  • Test 5 - 69 %
  • Test 6 - 66 %

  • I have also attempted the 1st mock exam provided in the Kathy Sierra & Bert Bates study guide CD.
  • The score I have received is 75%.

  • My plan is to take the 2nd mock exam provided in the CD as well as the final Enthuware exam this weekend and take the exam next week (around 22 or 23rd).

I need suggestions if I anybody have passed exams with these scores. Because as mentioned in other posts the if I get 80% in the mock exams then I am sure to pass. But I am lying around 60s..70s..
Also I am running out of mock exams. So need suggestions before I take the last 2.

    Kindly let me know.

I wouldn't touch the last two tests for now. After each test did you review every question to make sure you understood it and could answer it the next time? Did you discover anything besides Java that was giving you a problem that you could work on, like not reading the questions carefully enough? If it was me I wouldn't feel comfortable with those scores, but I can't say you wouldn't pass. Some have done it, or claim to with those scores. I would start over at test 1 and go back through them. I found that I really did not remember the questions. If you do remember a question just leave it out when you figure up the percentage. You will probably find you did about as well on the last day test as you did on the second time through for the other tests

Your scores seem borderline ok but the real cause of concern is that they are reducing. This tells me that you have not used the mock exams properly. Ideally, after taking a test you should go back to the books or tutorials to read up on topics on which you scored less. You scores will improve if you do that.

Guillermo makes a good point. You should take Test 1 again and see how you score. You may discount the score by 10-20% depending on how much you feel you remember the questions (up to you). So you could consider a 78 on Test1 as same as 71 on first attempt. But again, you must go to reading and practicing code samples before moving on to the next test.

Yes, I have retaken all the tests and the scores mentioned above are 1st time scores. The scores have averaged around 90% in all the retests. Yes I went through all the questions by writing down notes of the wrong questions and have also tackled them using the Leitner mode. I did try out the code of many questions that were tricky.

    I passed
  • Most Missed test - with a score of 86%
  • and
  • Very tough test with a score of 93%
  • .
I feel that is why I have got 75% on the OCA mock exam 1 now (which is the trickiest of all tests in my opinion).

I have exam scheduled for next week now. But I am not sure how I can gauge my progress without taking more mock exams. Kindly let me know.

Do anybody have experience with myexamcloud mock exams mentioned here: http://www.myexamcloud.com/onlineexam/viewStudyPlan.html?s=KFx2lAszxQI=

    Thanks

See how you do on these. Note there are topics there not on the ocajp, like threads and inner classes, and etc.

If you decide to do the real test, I suggest taking the last two enthuwares. Last Day Test was especially useful to me.

For what it's worth, I just took the 1z0-803 exam and passed it fairly easily with much worse practice scores than you. I used the Mala Gupta study guide to cover all the bases, and used the Enthuware tests. The Enthuware tests were much more difficult than the actual test I was given. I took four practice exams, with the scores of
    1) 33%
    2)40%
    3)50%
    4)54%

All the tests were taken in the same week, and I then did the more specific specific mini exams at the very end the night before the exam. I found those were very helpful. I gained 20% on the actual exam, and I'm sure I could have done better if I had studied more seriously. If you're scoring high on the Enthuware exams, there is no doubt in my mind you will easily pass the actual exam.
