Hi everybody.

I just registered for the Oracle 1z0-808 Exam (Java SE 8 Associate I) but have some doubts.

I've gone to the site of Oracle, to PearsonVue and checked everything but I need to be sure (I don't want to see my subscription fees go to Oracle for nothing).

My plan is to obtain the Associate certification first then the Programmer one and then after switch Java EE certifications but I have the following doubts :

- Does the Java SE8 Programmer exam already exist?

- Am I doing a mistake by taking the Java SE8 Associate instead of the Java SE7 one?

When I checked on both sites, my questions were answered but I really need to be sure before making any mistake.

Sorry for the redundance. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Welcome to the Ranch!

Yes. It is 1Z0-809 (link).

No. I think doing the most recent version is the best idea. Only drawback might be a choice of available study materials.

Java 8 is best choose. also before pass real exam you can use mock test to test that you are ready.

Hi Yassin Hajaj,

First of all, a warm welcome to CodeRanch!

Yassin Hajaj wrote:- Am I doing a mistake by taking the Java SE8 Associate instead of the Java SE7 one?

Not at all! I think the decision between OCA8 and OCA7 mainly depends on the availability (and your preference) of resources to study for the exam. Here you'll find an up-to-date overview of the available resources. You probably want to take the OCP certification exam as well and then it depends on the time frame. At this moment there are no study guides for the OCP8 certification exam, only for the OCP7 one. So if you want to become OCP certified this year and want to use a study guide while preparing, you don't really have a choice and have to opt for the OCA7 and OCP7 certification exams (you can't combine different version certifications).

Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Roel

Having a good, solid understanding of all concepts (exam objectives) is probably the first requirement

Hey Roel, thanks for the precise answer.

Will probably have to study for the OCP by myself I think but I do not think this is a problem if I have the requierements.

I was just asking if there were websites or even books with fakes exams.

If you have read my previous posts carefully, you'll find a link to a topic with an up-to-date list of resources (books, mock exams, videos) you can use to prepare for the OCA8 exam. Both OcajpFaq and OcpjpFaq will also have links to all kinds of study materials like study guides, mock exams, and so on.
