I have a Sun SCJP 5.0 around 2006ish and am thinking of upgrading. I am a bit pressed for time and am wondering which exam is "easier"? I understand the 1Z0-805 has content that only appears after 5 right? thanks!

803 is far easier. But it only gets you an Associate certification which shows less knowledge than the SCJP. Also, 808 and 803 are pretty much the same difficulty. Both only give the associate cert, but for different versions of Java.

Kind of. It focuses on Java 7 material. But Java is cumulative so you still need to know the older features. It doesn't ask about regular expressions though or features that are from older versions of Java. It's more that you have to remember how inheritance works and the like.
