I am delighted to share my experience after reading so many others' experiences while preparing for the test. My experience and method of preparation is similar to many others, who have already shared their experiences. But I would like to mention few things.

1) I am very surprised to see that the exam questions are SIMILAR to those in Enthuware, though they are DIFFERENT. I felt the questions are NOT EASIER than Enthuware, but the level of difficulty just matches.
2) I am surprised to read the below as part of instructions before starting the test (not the exact words), "Some questions(easy?) may not be added to the original score. But the time of test includes all the questions." I really didn't get what it means. I thought all 70 questions have equal score.
3) I answered the easy questions in a flow, and marked the tougher questions for review at the end, but before I can review and answer them all, I ran out of time.
4)I have a VERY BIG DISAPPOINTMENT with the test center. I used lot of papers and pen while taking the practice tests as I am more visual. And hoped I would get abundant papers and pen at the Test Center as well. But to my disappointment, I only got 3 erasable one-sided notepads, with no eraser.

Well done Bindu! I will be happy if I get 83%!

Re (2) I am sure I have read somewhere - probably on this forum - that they include some questions for trial purposes for future exams to see whether they are fair. This happens in all the OCA tests I believe and so it is one reason not to spend too long on one question - because it might not even count! Maybe Roel or some other knowledgeable person will confirm.

Sometimes during exams some new questions are added to the exam. These exams will not be scored, so answering them wrong or correct won't affect your score. The time duration of the exam will be adjusted accordingly, so if there are 5 new questions the time duration will be increased. You won't know which questions are the new ones which are not scored. And that makes sense: otherwise you could easily skip them and you'll have more time to answer the other (important) questions The reason why these questions are added: Oracle wants to add these new questions to the question bank maybe to replace existing questions or just to add as new questions and needs feedback about these questions. If for example a question is answered 500 times and 450 candidates answered it incorrectly, the question won't probably make it into the question bank. Another example: maybe 400 of the 450 candidates who answered the question incorrectly chose option B; then the question might be added to the question bank but option B will be replaced with something else.
So it's nothing more than some beta phase for these questions. And it's very similar to the beta version of an exam, the only difference: it's about a very small set of questions (maybe 3 or 5) while the beta version of the exam is about all questions in the question bank.

Did you explicitly ask for either more erasable one-sided notepads and/or an eraser? Normally a test center will (is required to) provide these if you ask for them. A test center can't know you are a more visual person and will write a lot (for me 3 one-sided notepads will probably be enough). But if you ask for more notepads and/or an eraser explicitly, you normally get those without any problem.

Hi Roel

There is no one in the Exam room except the other test takers. And I am not sure if I can go out of the room to ask for the notepads. Initially I got one notepad. I was erasing the notepad with my fingers. After a while, test center person came in and i asked for an eraser. She said there is no eraser and gave me 2 more notepads. And I never saw her again during my exam. I did a lot of erasing with my fingers. The marker is a big one, and I easily ran out of space in the notepads.

I have decided to schedule in a different test center for my next exam, where they can provide some papers and pen.

Next time ask it at the desk (where you register for the exam and you have to identify yourself). If you are in the exam room, it's indeed too late because you can't leave.

Did you try clicking on the Edit link at the top and providing your CodeRanch credentials? Use your username (not email address) and password.

That's really weird, because it's a Wiki page which can be accessed and changed by every CodeRanch user.

The procedure should be:
  • visit OcajpWallOfFame
  • click on Edit link (in the header)
  • provide your CodeRanch user name (not email address) and password
  • add an entry with your name
  • save your changes

  • Could you try once more? Maybe use another browser. If it still won't work, can you create a new topic in the Ranch Office forum so it can be investigated further.

Thank you Roel for the detailed instructions. I was giving my email address and that's why I couldn't get in. Now I gave my username, and it worked :-)
