HI penguins,
you can skip the first part and go to the bold part 2 if you do not have time, but i like to exactly pinpoint my situation, although have to respect you if you do not have time to read me
As I cannot afford and show off in the coffee bars the last mac, and I used to know quitish ok slackware 15 years ago, I bought a small i5 4gb netbook Acer installing androidstudio+opensdk to make easy developing on the go with 1,2kg on my shoulders(using the 1Thousand spared to eat veggy burgers at restaurant for 1 year)
Lubuntu immediately conquered me, and after a couple of weeks i made everything functional,
but unfortunately because of the X11 preset environment LXDE does not have transparency ( that i need, because I need to see the desktop in background while i code as scientific studies show seeing nature increases the span of attention, and it works as a treat with me),
this brought me to a problem: install new packages to implement the transparency. Or giggling some libraries used for archlinux on a project, or installing a more expensive resources kilobytes X11 desktop environment as XFCE(that has transparency on default)
A lot of people told me that if I use the efficient debianlike system in Lubuntu to install and deinstall packages, I do not have any risk, but I am quite sure that i would mess all the .directories where sits the configurations files.
part2:
So I would like to back up the system, exactly as I was doing with ghost in windows ages ago. I remember all the minimalistic admins ( for a strange correlation also fans of mpg321:) )where using a kind of #dd command, but as now my focus is only android, I would like to use really easy/free/ and really reliable backup sw.
I saw a lot of reviews of different softwares, but I saw in a post in this page that it was adviced bacula. Is this an easy/free and realible backup product or there is something even more safe and idiot proof for disaster recovery?
I am aware my is really a lazy approach that could make every systemist and linux user saying that I am looking for something that goes in contrast with the linux-everything is a file philosophy, but at the moment I have to focus my free time on another priority, and need to use linux just because is the best operative system and the only one that solve my (hopefully) temporary budget challenges
