Hi, I'm Luca from Rome (IT) and I'm new here.
I'm a mechanical Engineer with a flair and a background in Programming and now I'm trying to work as a software developer (having lost my job a year ago
and not willing to go back there )
I got my first OCA Java 7 Programmer certification last month (96% score) and this forum was a rich source of
infos. Now I'm willing to go on my certification path in order to be prepared for some job interviews next year.
I'm studying for OCP Java 7 on the same book I used for OCA (Sierra and Bathes, a really good book) and trying to pause on each chapter and integrate every topic with
other sources (internet,books..).
What should I do to improve my learning and be prepared for the 1Z0-804? I successfully passed the first exam, but it was entirely different (being focused primarily on syntax and basic constructs).
This one is more oriented to libraries and special features of application programming (threading, container classes and so on..)
Can you folks give me some advice? Thanks a lot, this is a great site!

Luca

Hi Luca, welcome to CodeRanch.

Tough luck with the job, sorry to hear that. As far as preparation for OCP certification is concerned, apart from the Kathy & Bert (K&B) book, you can read some of the other books available on the exam (check ScjpFaq for book names). That part I guess you are already doing so that's good. Also you should practice by creating programs, running them, playing around with language features in your programs. That will help you on the exam as well as on interviews. You should also try to give a lot of mock exams (check our ScjpMockTests page), that will give you good practice for the exam. The K&B book includes 3 sets of mock exams, additional mock exams will give you more confidence about the exam. Best of luck

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
