Hi All ,

This is my first post in here. I am planning to get OCAJP8 certification and thinking about to prepare for a month.

About me.
1. 7 years IT experience mostly in scripting (Shell , Powershell)
2. Learned Java 7 years back , but after that not in touch so completely washed out.
3. I want to learn java and certification is just a way of keeping me motivated , to have a deadline and reason to study.
4. I have been trying to read Head First Java for 2 months but was never able to go beyond chapter 4 as I lost motivation mid way, nut I don't want to give up.

I need a partner for this journey. Please let me know if anyone interested to start the preparation with me.

Thanks.

Hi duggy Singh,

First of all, a warm welcome to CodeRanch!

It all depends on how much time you can spend, but preparing as a newbie for just one month will probably be too ambitious (but it's possible if you can spend plenty of hours each day to study). You'll probably need much more time to prepare thoroughly for the OCAJP8 certification exam. Please note it won't be enough to know how to write Java applications; you'll need a good, solid understanding of the Java and OO basics to pass this certification exam.

I wonder why you need a partner for this journey. If you really want to learn Java, that should be enough motivation to keep going and not give up half way. And passing the certification exam in the end will be the icing on the cake of your journey to learn Java. It might be very difficult to find a partner due to several reasons, e.g. learning speed (yo might learn much faster than your partner), time to spend for studying,... But no worries, here in this forum you'll have plenty of people who are studying and preparing together with you for the OCAJP exam. And others will benefit from the questions/doubts you have, like you will benefit as well from the questions/doubts of others. And every rancher has her own story: an experienced Java developer, a school graduate, a system engineer who wants to switch to Java development,...

In the OcajpFaq (besides other very useful information) and this thread you'll find an overview of all available resources (study guides, mock exams,...) to thorougly prepare yourself for the certification exam. And on the OcajpWallOfFame you'll find plenty of (links to) experiences from other ranchers (including resources they have used). So it can be useful to determine which resources are useful (and which are not).

Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Roel

Thanks Roel for the quick reply.

I will start alone. Planning to start with Head First Java as I like the way that book teaches. Will be flexible with days of preparation as my main goal is learning.
I am sure I will be learning a lot here from fellow members and seniors as well.

Thanks.
DS.

That's a great resource to study from! Don't forget you also have the (free) Oracle Java tutorials at your disposal.

Happy studying and learning!
Kind regards,
Roel

Hi,
I'm also newbie to Java. I have been working in java for about 2 years without any certification. So, I have also started to read Java 8 OCA exam guide. Currently I'm in end of 4th chapter. I would love to have someone to continue reading and practicing those exercises. My deadline is to take the exam before end of this year.

Hi all,

I have also started my journey to OCAJP 8 from today... I've restarted to learn java after many years of break. I have started to read OCA: Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide: Exam 1Z0-808 by Jeanne Boyarsky and Scott Selikoff. @Roel De Nijs thanks for your suggestions, like your post.

I would like to thank you for all of the group members in advance to helping each others and share your knowledge.

Thanks,
S B Patel

Glad to hear you liked my suggestions (and post). Next time you like a post, you might want to use the button on this (these) post(s), just like on Facebook It's easy, fast and other ranchers will see immediately which are the "starred" posts.

Kind regards,
Roel
