Hello,

There is a defect with this site where on some threads it shows the number of replies as being the total number of posts and not the actual number of replies.

Example:
I create a new post, it has no replies, site shows 0 replies - correct
Now someone replies to my post, site shows 1 replies - correct
I reply back, site shows 2 replies - correct
Someone replies back, site shows 3 replies - correct
I reply back, site shows 4 replies - correct

However, I have found 2 posts where the site is showing 5 replies when in reality it is 5 posts (initial post + 4 replies).

The threads in question are
Java Forums -> This Site -> Ranch Office -> Bear Day (1 initial post + 4 replies, yet forum shows it as 5 replies)
Java Forums -> This Site -> Ranch Office -> Last post not showing? (1 initial post + 4 replies, yet forum shows it as 5 replies)

Thanks.

Yes, this is a known bug. It has to do with the system being unable to correctly track the number of replies, when there are posts being moderated (and temporarily, not visible to users), or when posts are deleted (like spam).

Ah, ok, is there a page where you keep track of all known defects that people can check before they submit a defect?

No. I don't think that there is a publicly available page (internal use only). Sorry.

However, thanks for reporting the defect nonetheless. Have a cow...

Many are reported in this very forum, so you can search this forum if you think you have found something new.

Well if I search this forum for all of the the terms "replies defect", I only get 2 results, 1 of which is this thread and another one not related. So searching it wouldn't really have helped - and I don't think anyone is going to sit here trying all the different permutations before they submit a defect (OK, I just tries "replies bug", and I did find the defect raised in 2010 - but, that one only got matched because six posts down someone mentioned "bug" - the OP didn't mention it, and so if that person had just written "we're aware of this", instead of adding bug, then that wouldn't have been matched either).

I am assuming there are only around a few defects at most reported per month, so I just think it would be a better idea if there was a specific section at this forum where you could raise defects - in that way, anyone who has found a defect could quickly browse that list in a few minutes to determine whether or not the defect they want to raise has already been raised.
