Hi all !

This is Chaitrali Patil and my first post here .

I am planning to get Java Associate certification and thinking of appearing for it in May 2016.

About me:

IT experience :Worked in college as software developer for 2 years developing web application in J2EE (Java,Javascript) with no java certification.
Left the job as i had to shift to new place. Here IT companies are not considering my college experience . Now i am having 3 years gap. While Searching for a job, 3 years gap is creating a problem.

I have decided to get a java certification to update my java knowledge and help me in job search.

So which certification should I do OCA 7 or OCA8 and considering 20% discount on Java certification exam ?

Thanking You,

Chaitrali.

Hi Chaitrali,
Welcome. I think the latest one -OCAJP 8 is always good to take. I guess they will consider the certification only up to certain extent, in your job interviews. But preparing for OCAJP will certainly sharpen your skills and help you with the interviews. Don't worry about the Gap, you can surely get through. I think the 20% discount is until Dec 31st 2015. All the best ..

regards,
Ramya

Hi Chaitrali Patil,

First of all, a warm welcome to CodeRanch!

I think the most obvious choice these days is the OCA8 certification exam. At this moment there are study guides for both OCA7 and OCA8 exams. And even for the OCP8 exam, there's currently one study guide available on the market. And by the time you have taken (and passed) the OCA8 exam, there might be other OCP8 study guides available. Probably the only reason why you could/would consider taking the OCA7 exam might be a money issue: if you can buy only one study guide for both the OCA and OCP certification exams, you currently can only buy K&B7 (for the OCA7 and OCP7 certification exams). In this post you'll find an up-to-date overview of all available resource to prepare for the OCA7 and OCA8 certification exams.

If you want to use the 20% discount, you'll need to take the exam before December 31, 2015. If you plan to take it in May 2016, you want be able to prepare before the end of the year. So you won't be able to enjoy this discount.

Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Roel

Thank you Ramya Subraamanian and Roel De Nijs Sir for the best advice.

This cleared my doubts and certainly this is the best forums for my Java journey.
I have already bookmarked many of the previous posts about Java certification.

Thanking you,

Chaitrali.
