I saw a 40 year old gingerbread house today. The story behind it is interesting as well.

Cute story.

I don't recall ever hearing of a gingerbread house before, only the poor gingerbread man.

Is it the sort of soft gingerbread with holes in like cake, or is it the harder sort?

It's in a glass box. I don't know how to tell. I'm guessing harder because that's typical in the US when making a gingerbread house.

That would be the soft kind. That makes it cake. The difference between cake and biscuit (≅cookie) is that cake gets firmer when it is stale and biscuits become softer when stale. That is why Jaffa Cakes are not liable for tax.

You should be able to see the texture through the glass box.
