Welcome to the Ranch

Don't know, but I can see a few things. The getAbsoluteFile method does not do what you think it does. If you print a file starting with / that looks all right to me, but I am using a Linux box. Surely you are using a Windows® box and the path should start C:\ or similar? So something has gone wrong with your finding your file. Maybe it should have been
myFile = myFile.getAbsoluteFile();
I do not think your method throws any of those Exceptions. Use try‑with‑resources in preference to finally if possible.

I added code tags to your post: always use the tags. Doesn't it look better If you look here and scroll right to the bottom you will find how I made it show the first line as 259. Please remember the indentation which I haven't tidied up.

Hey thanks for the reply I managed to get rid of a few exceptions by my own. the path file helped that you outlined user/file/example Im just hacking away on this now
What i don't understand is what does the developer actually put here for the uploadedFile I don't really understand and dropbox doesn't have clear documentation on how or why to do this I believe this is the only thing interfering with the upload though, thank you for your help!

What i don't understand is what does the developer actually put here for the uploadedFile

The dropbox documentation says "uploadFile takes a path pointing to where we want the file on our Dropbox,". so that first parameter specifies where you want to put the file relative to the root folder of your dropbox account and what you want to call the file.

This code is trying to load the file in 'inputstream' to the dropbox root folder and name the file "/magnum-opus.txt. It possibly isn't working because you have a leading quote character before the forward slash.

hey thanks everyone,

I got it now. there was a couple things wrong and the biggest was the keys not holding onto the auth information so everytime i went to use the upload method it would be good to go but because the key was not stored it would automatically not go through and a whole bunch of exceptions were thrown. Thanks for contributing though appreciate it!

I should add that I got it while just using the File file = new File ("user/desktop/file.txt/"); but not the JFileCHooser which is the project for today I suppose which seems a bit more tricky and of a process in JAVA
