Is the knowledge from this book: http://www.cs.armstrong.edu/liang/apcs/toc.html.

Enough to pass the OCA: Java programmer SE8? Thanks!

It does look like it but I am not sure whether the mentioned chapters contain all the course content. For e.g. I don't see lambda expressions mentioned anywhere but they are in OCA for sure.

Use the following link and click on the exam topics tab to see all the items that are present in the OCA exam-

Is it a programming book or a certification book? Unless it is a study guide, educational books tend to skip over topics that, while unimportant for programming day-to-day, are vital to pass the exam. I agree with Vaibhav, you should try comparing the contents to the list of objectives for the 1Z0-808 exam.

I don't think it does. It's meant to be a book for the AP exam. Which means it covers what you need to know for the AP exam, not the OCA exam.

Most study guides recommend you read another Java book first. This definitely qualifies as that initial Java book.

I agree with the other replies: only this book will not be enough to pass the OCAJP8 certification exam. But you can definitely use this book as a complementary resource while preparing for the OCAJP8 certification exam. I would strongly advice to purchase a study guide to use as a primary resource. It's recommended to buy a study guide which is especially written for the version you want to take. So if you want to take the exams for Java 8, you should definitely buy a study guide covering OCAJP8 (and/or OCPJP8). In the OcajpFaq (besides other very useful information) and this thread you'll find an overview of all available resources (study guides, mock exams,...) to thorougly prepare yourself for the OCA certification exam. And on the OcajpWallOfFame you'll find plenty of (links to) experiences from other ranchers (including resources they have used). So it can be useful to determine which resources are useful (and which are not).

Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Roel
