Joel,

Though I'm a full time Java developer I like making movies in my spare time. Distributing films through the theater system is harder than winning the power ball. So, I want to create an android movie platform that promotes the movies and then can download or stream them. This would supplement the usual online movie locations such as iTunes and Amazon. I want to be able to show the movies for free, using the TV broadcast model (i.e. ad supported) If I store the video on GoogleDrive, it is possible to download/stream the video and control its viewing, correct for interruptions, place ads during the viewing, etc.

Thanks,
Tim Gallagher

Hi Tim,

Though I'm a full-time technical writer/editor, I like writing and recording music in my spare time. So, I know what you mean about how hard distribution can be.

I like your idea of creating an Android app to promote and distribute your movies. Unfortunately, my Android book is an introductory book that doesn't cover any aspects of downloading/streaming video. I think it's a great way to learn the basics of Android programming, but I think it stops well short of the skills that you would need to build this platform.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I wish you the best with your movies and your app!

Doesn't youtube already serve your requirement already? Why reinvent the wheel?

Joel,

Thanks for the honest reply and not saying "this would be a good place to start". As one fellow artist to another, send me some music and maybe we can get it into the next movie or the movie app - TimGallagheractor@gmail.com - we'll figure out a way to promote each other.

Congrats on publishing the book.
Tim

I don't believe that Youtube provides me the control of the money or restrict the content to in a manner that would promote the movies that are part of the network I want to build. Think of it as Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, Apple (iTunes), Sony (CBS, etc), Disney (ABC, etc), News Corp (Fox), etc who have all re-invented in order to control the content and ads.
