I develop Java web applications in Tomcat 8 that run on Linux VMs. We are considering the idea of running our software in some type of third party Tomcat cloud container solution. These types of "containers" do not have access to the OS.

Currently we have one web application that uses ImageMagick. In order to manipulate images we make OS calls to scripts. Using a cloud based Tomcat container there will be no way for us to do this since ImageMagick would not be installed. We need instead a 100% Java library solution to replace ImageMagick that can be bundled with our WAR files. Does anyone have suggestions on really great image manipulation productions that are 100% Java?

Take a look a JAI, Java Advanced Imaging, documentation. It may be a solution to consider.
