Recently I noticed that "Wiki"s started appearing around the forum. It's an interesting idea, especially for FAQ Wikis.

I have a few questions regarding its functionality. Is it somehow possible to track changes that people do? Is it somehow possible to discuss given Wiki, or comment own changes?

Yesterday I updated a dead link in one Wiki. I didn't see any option to comment what and why I changed, and after the edit there wasn't any option to see what changes were made. Or at least I didn't see them.

Having ability to track such changes, comment them and have discussions would be a great thing to have in order to create quality wikis.

All our former FAQs have been changed to Wikis; I think it happened on 3rd January, which is when big changes tend to happen.
Please tell us which wiki you updated, then I can see whether I can find the differences.

The Wiki I have mentioned is this one:
http://www.coderanch.com/t/660024/Wiki/Linux-Unix

In the section "What is The Best Linux Distribution?" I had updated the link in the "Here is a handy quiz to help you determine..." sentence.

It says that the wiki has been edited and clicking on the link shows the previous version with Adam Scheller on. It does not show an SVN‑like list of changes, but it would be easy to copy and paste the two versions and run diff.

Those links are probably only visible to us mods.

And thank you for correcting the link

In my opinion, I think we are so used to the ranch's old "friki" wiki, that we just tolerate the lack of features ... ... having said that, now that the forum and the wiki are merged, it would be nice to see what new improvements are coming down the pike for wiki support.

As for the wiki with comments feature, that already exists. It is just not enabled for that FAQ (or for the majority of FAQs). I think that they are a little different than what you are thinking of though, as they are more like a forum topic, with the original post editable like a Wiki.

And I think once we get more comfortable with using it, they may start appearing.

In the meantime, thanks for helping out with the FAQs, and suggestions for improvements. Have some cows.

Henry
