Commercial Advantage or Otherwise?

Java8 has been available for the best part of two years. Your two Java8 books came out quickly afterwards, as did other books, e.g. Urma Fusco and Mycroft. Is there a commercial advantage to getting books like this printed and published quickly? Is there a risk that a good book like yours will fail to sell because everybody has already bought their Java8 books?

I'm interested in what Dr. Horstmann has to say in reply, but, just speaking for myself, I'll say that deliberately held off of buying a Java 8 book, because the only one I want is Core Java. To keep up, I find that Web sites (this one, for example) do a great job of helping me stay current, while waiting for a new edition.

That said, I found "Java SE 8 for the Really Impatient" to be a good investment, and it really got me wishing for that three-ring version of Core Java (as it very nearly mimics what I think the SE 7-to-SE 8 update packet for a three-ring version would include).

I think Prof Horstmann has also convinced me that I would be better off getting an Impatient book as an update to my older editions of Core Java (I only have two editions).
