Hi everyone.
So after doing some new designs for Javaranch it's time to make a brand spanking new homepage for Coderanch. This is where I have got to. What do you think? Feedback please.

Looks great, but suggest you change the tag line "Gobs of Programming Discussions"...

... has different connotations in different parts of the world!

I find the font hard to read. Can't tell if it is because it is a screenshot or the font. Also, "win a free book" was on the JavaRanch home page. Any reason not to have it on the CodeRanch one?

Looks awesome! I feel somehow you have managed to capture the exact spirit of the ranch! Have a cow! Moo!
PS. I did not understand "codealows". Is it a play on outlaws?

That is really cool. I love it!

I'm currently sat on the train to work grinning like an idiot I like it that much.

Jeanne, I think the font might just be from the screenshot, I'll look at how/where i can add the free book link. Thanks for the suggestion.

One thing I should point out is that there will end up being two home pages. One page for Java Ranch and one page for code Ranch.

So we can have different content on each page.

Since we have never had a code ranch home page then if it starts with only three links it is still far more than what we had before.

Thanks for the feedback.

Ok so this was supposed to be a play on a song called home on the range, the words go something like this: Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam, Where the deer and the antelope play, Where seldom is heard a discouraging word, And the skies are not cloudy all day.

So looking for some suggestions, anyone got any ideas?

I'm thinking:
A home where the codealo roam, Where bug fixers and programmers play!!

How about 'Javalo'? Or even 'programmers'? (it scans)

However, I'm well impressed.

I'd agree that the font is a little tough to read - especially where it's small, in the three panels at the bottom.

But other than that: Well done! Have a cow.

I like the new homepage! I have one 'nit' and one suggestion. The nit is when I lost my password, fixed it, and returned to log in, that on the "new look" it said to "click here to return to log in" but it is not "clickable". My suggestion is to add a topic to the left bar for "Java ME" or "Java IoT". I think there's a lot to said under either one of them. Thanks!

Thanks Ron, I have fixed that typo so it should be spelt correct when the page goes live.

Thanks

There is a typo:
"Jump straigt..." h missing
And word "programing..." in the same sentence, missing m, should be two m's I think.

And as I said about 5 times already, that is awesomeness. Well done.

In section "WIN A FREE BOOK" Code Ranch is written in two words, while in the next section "ADVERTISE ON CODERANCH" there is a mentioned CodeRanch as a one word.
I think should be the same in both places as a one word.

Also first mentioned section ends with no . (dot), while second section ends with . (dot). I'm too picky on those, but I always notice such things. Please decide if you want to change those.

Holy cow! Just clicked the "Home" button and saw it live for the first time - that's great! So, is the longer term plan to move all the internal pages to Bootstrap also, or just the home page?

Hi Paul,

I was referring to this page: http://www.javaranch.com/ that the "Home" icon is linked to. The page is using Twitter's Bootstrap, a very popular HTML/CSS/JS framework: http://getbootstrap.com

Bootstrap's CSS is being loaded on line 40 and the Bootstrap JS at line 1956.

* - + .* THE NEW CODERANCH HOMEPAGE * - + .*

and

javaranch.com

1. Bottom right corner "FOLOW US:" <-- one L is missing in both websites.
2. javaranch.com section "Meet the JavaRanch Family" bottom right corner. Second sentence in it suppose to start with an upper case. It starts with "why it's our...".
3. javaranch.com bottom left corner section about "JavaRanch Journal", content's last sentence missing . (dot) after the last sentence.

Don't see inconsistencies anymore. And sorry if you consider those as too tiny things in order to be worth to mention.
