Hi All,

I have my Java SE 8 exam scheduled in next 10 days. I am referring OCA/OCP 7 (K&B) along with Java SE 8 for really impatient. Since it is the OCA exam, do i need to study in depth the concepts of Java 8? Also i have a difficulty in finding free mock tests on Java 8. Can anyone please tell me few tips on preparing effectively for this exam? and is it enough if i study from the books?

Thanks,

Hi Sangeetha,

you can find resources (mock exams books) for OCA here : http://www.coderanch.com/t/659981/Wiki/Ocajp-Faq

Yeah, you need to study the concepts of Java 8.I would suggest you to take up a proper exam guide for OCA 8 to study those, so you'll know what exactly is to be covered.you can find the mapping between OCA 7 and 8 here : http://www.coderanch.com/t/659983/Wiki/OCAJP-OCAJP.

In the OcajpWallOfFame you'll find plenty of (links to) experiences from other ranchers (including resources they have used).

Yeah, you need to study the concepts of Java 8.

Not in depth though. You only need to know a few Java 8 concepts for the OCA 8 like Predicates and Java 8 dates.

Don't forget that starting with Java 8 you are allowed to use static and default methods for interface. In exam I got more questions regarding this subject than the ones with new Java 8 dates and lambdas

Hi Sangeetha Revanna,

First of all, a warm welcome to CodeRanch!

In the OcajpFaq (besides other very useful information) and this thread you'll find an overview of all available resources (study guides, mock exams,...) to thorougly prepare yourself for the certification exam. And on the OcajpWallOfFame you'll find plenty of (links to) experiences from other ranchers (including resources they have used). So it can be useful to determine which resources are useful (and which are not).

If you are looking for mock exams which are really equal/similar with the real OCA exam, I would definitely recommend the Enthuware mock exams. It's not free (+- 10USD), but it offers excellent value for money. Enthuware has a free trial, so you should certainly try that one first. I'm pretty sure this free trial will convince you to buy the full version.

Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Roel

PS. It seems someone quoted one of my famous statements. I recognize those even with my eyes closed
