Hello,

In OCA Java SE7exam , questions from question paper are evenly distributed from all chapters? or some chapters have more weightage over others?

Thanks,
Shweta.

Don't know. What does it say on the exam's website? I shall move you to the exams forum.

No, they are not evenly distributed.. for a variety of reasons:

- There's no such thing as exam "chapters", since the exam writers don't have a study guide.

- Which questions you get for your exam are selected at random. One person may get a lot of one topic, another may get very little of that topic

- Some questions cover multiple objectives (or appear to be about one objective when in actuality they are about a different objective).

In short, study everything.. twice!

There are published objectives. Some study guide authors choose to have a one to one mapping from objectives to chapters. Others do not. (Scott and I do not.) There is not a one to one mapping between objectives and % of exam questions in the first place. Both are organizational constructs.

You probably mean (main) "exam topics" or "exam objectives" as there are no chapters on the actual exam. But you need a very good and solid understanding of all basic Java and OO concepts to pass the exam, because your questions will be randomly selected from a question bank and you have no clue about which questions you'll get. For example: when I took the SCJP 6.0 exam (that's the equivalent of the OCPJP7 or OCPJP8 exam) some years ago, I got zero questions about regular expressions, but someone else might get 5-6 questions on this topic. But you will only know if a certain topic had more questions than another one, if you have gone through all questions and have finished the exam

But as Scott have mentioned, some questions will cover multiple objectives. And there are a few of topics which will occur in (almost) every question and thus you'll need an excellent knowledge of these topics, otherwise you might fail the exam. Some examples:
  • rules for legal identifiers
  • the String concatenation operator
  • declaring and initializing a variable
  • rules for valid method overloading and method overriding

  • Hope it helps!
    Kind regards,
    Roel
