I know how to get user input using an EditText or something, but what I want is for the keyboard to show on the screen and the user to start entering letters and whatever they want while my game reads the information. It's for entering high scores. I want to take, for instance, three letters as input and then when the user hits enter, I want to accept it and dispose of the keyboard, or when the user hits backspace, I'll do the appropriate action for that.
Is there a way to accomplish accessing the keyboard without the use of a GUI component like EditText?
The only other option I can think of is to make my own interface. It would be something like a single letter with a scroll up or down that you can scroll from A to Z with, then tap the letter to enter the letter, then an accept button. I don't know if the user would like that, though. It would be like an arcade game.
