JNLP not automatically loading

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
We use a java based editor in our CMS for document development. It was packaged as an applet and ran in a browser tab. This worked reasonable well but because of the browser war against Java, precipitating the removal of applet support in all browsers we decided to move the editor into an application and utilize JNLP technology to distribute it. This is now done and we are faced with the unexpected problem of some OS's, mainly OSx, and some browsers in all OS's not automatically opening the jnlp file and thus running our editor.

Is there a central repository of solutions to this problem? Oracle seems strangely silent on the subject.

I need to provide solutions to our users that are consistent and easy to follow. Many of our users are not programmer types and their PC be it a windoze orMac is a magic box.

thanks, Scott

I believe some browsers default to downloading JNLP files rather than launching them so you need to identify which browsers on which platforms are not auto launching and provide instructions for the user on how to set their browser to launch the file.

Here's an article on how to get Chrome to launch JNLP's rather than downloading them.
