Deploying and testing the opening page, Java Servlets and JSP, page 77. Starting tomcat.

I have created the deployment and development environments as instructed by the book. Created the html and the xml files and placed them in the right folders and environments.
Now when i try to execute "bin/startup.sh" Nothing happens and I receive an error in the terminal that reads as: "-bash: bin/startup.sh : Permission denied". I am clueless as to why i am getting this error.
Can anyone tell me how to get tomcat to run? Currently my tomcat is located at: /library/Tomcat

Have you checked whether "startup.sh" has execute permission?

I use NetBean platform 8.0 to create a web application. I also use tomcat as the container for that web application.
