Hi All

Pritty much today only I joined coderanch since found it very informative. I am a software developer working with procedural languages(COBOL,Natural,JCL). I want to learn JAVA and want to try my career in open system. Could anyone kindly help me on what and where to start as JAVA is not a procedural language.Books, videos, online tutorials, mock test, learning pattern anything which can be helpful.

Thank you
Rahul

Hey Rahul,

I'm new to programing entirely, so not sure if the material I've been using will be of any help to you, very much the beginner programming stuff, but if you really want to go to the basics let me know and I'll put up some links to places I've been looking, including very useful links from CodeRanch.

The most important sources for beginners are probably the Oracle Java tutorials: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/index.html

you should begin with this trail: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/java/index.html

I have found this site and its "Programmed Learning" method to teach Java immensely beneficial, I hope you will too.

Welcome to the Ranch

I would not recommend the Youtube link, which shows some bad design of its classes. The University link is better, but I think it does not introduce object‑orientation early enough.

Thank you all for the instant and informative responses. I have started with YouTube and the oracle one as mentioned.I would also Like to know if you all can suggest useful video tutorials on OOPs concept. As I am still not very confident in that in understanding and while applying.

Also can anyone please educate me that if I want to reply to someone particular in this post/response how can I do that?
