Hello Ranchers,

As of yesterday,i passed Oracle Certified Java Programmer 1(SE 8) with 87%.I want to express my most sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the ranchers who helped me during the process. You all are the best mentors one can find during compiler errors . Especially Knute Snortum,Liutauras-Vilda who replied to my 90% of the posts. My special thanks to Roel De Nijs,Junilu-Lacar and Henry Wong for helping me with programming methodology and basic concepts.
Talking about my preparation phase,i started from scratch. It took me 2 months to understand the JAVA(theoritically) and a whole month for grasping the knowledge to crack the exam. The journey was exciting and fun,all thanks to the "Head First Java "book by K&B. This book really helped me through my initial learning phase. Secondly, I grabbed the "OCA/OCP 7" study guide by the same authors, which helped me a lot in grasping the deep understanding of topics. As I was preparing for 1.8 version of the examination,i had to buy another book by Jeanne Boyarsky & Scott Selikoff ,which truly helped me with the new topics.
After the preparation,i started taking mocks. Frankly speaking, they are the best as they provide you a pool of tricky questions which not only helps you during the exam but also clear your doubts and makes you more comfortable with the topics.I didn't buy the mock exam simulator by ENTHUWARE though(I don't know why!) but I bought the pdf version of same by HANUMANT DESHMUKH & MITCHELL GLENN.I guess they are the same if you have a stopwatch by your side! 😉 .
Test day: I haven't had a good night's sleep(exam pressure!) which is necessary for a energised day.But I guess,it had not caused me a great deal as I am an Engineer!. My test experience at Pearson Test Center was good. They provide you with everything that is necessary, even the stationary goods. So,you don't have to take anything.

RESOURCES:

  • HEAD FIRST JAVA BY K&B
    OCA/OCP 7 STUDY GUIDE BY K&B
    OCA/OCP8 STUDY GUIDE BY SYBEX
    MOCK TESTS BY ENTHUWARE(PDF VERSION)

  • MOCK TESTS ANALYSIS:

  • FOUNDATION TEST:85.6%
    MOCK TEST 1:84.4%
    MOCK TEST 2:87.7%
    MOCK TEST 3:82%
    MOCK TEST 4:78%
    MOCK TEST 5:86%
    MOCK TEST 6:90%
    LAST DAY TEST:89.9%
    REAL EXAM:87%

  • Now, I am looking forward to OCP which I will give in the coming months.
PS-I want to say to all the certification seekers and learners that no matter how many times the compiler gets angry at you, it's the small codes(lots of) that you write which matters. So lets say it.
