I am preparing for the OCEJWCD 6 exam. I am having trouble understand one of the objectives

'Understand the role of JAAS in pluggable/extensible authentication for web applications'

What is this objective asking? Is it jaas Realms. I have tried to find tutorials regarding this, but they are hard to understand. Jdbc realms is easy and straight forward to understand, just create a database and configure server.xml (I'm using tomcat). Jaas realms seems to be adding more work.

It there any good tutorials about jaas/jaas realms? I can't see its benefit?

Any help would be appreciated
