Hello fellow coders !

My name is Olivier, I'm from France, and I am beginning my journey on the Java certification path.

I already have some programming experience in various languages including C, C++, Delphi, PHP, Perl, Python... I am currently working as a junior PTC Windchill developer so I practice basic Java on an everyday basis. However getting certified is by no means a requirement from my employer. I just want to improve my understanding of the language, its subtleties, and ultimately become a better developer.
My goal is to pass OCAJP8 at the end of the year. I have just received the 2 books certification kit from Jeanne & Scott and my plan is :
- August + September : in-depth study of the 1st book, 1 hour per day MINIMUM
- October : Enthuware mock tests and review of the book chapters I'm less comfortable with
- November : exam
- 2017 : start studying the 2nd book for OCPJP8 and define a new plan based on my previous experience

Now here is my first question as I will likely have to take a day off work for the exam : can we schedule it any day we want during the week, do we have to pick between predefined dates, or does it depend on the chosen test center ?

Thank you in advance for your help towards certification and always know where your towel is !

Welcome to CodeRanch Olivier!

It depends on the testing center. There are a couple that have weekend appointments here in New York. You'll have to check on Pearson VUE's website to find out what the choices are in France.

The further in advance you schedule, the better your choices are. Also, keep in mind that it is free to reschedule (as long as you don't do it the day before). So you can reserve a date/time you like and change it if that winds up not working for you.

Good luck on the exam.
